POLISEPT VET® Wound Gel SILVER PRO is a type of active dressing in the form of hydrocolloid gel for use on all kinds of wounds.
POLISEPT VET® Wound Gel Silver PRO is a modern preparation used in the care and treatment of wounds in animals.
Features:
INDICATIONS AND APPLICATION PROCEDURE
POLISEPT VET® Wound Gel SILVER PRO is applied as an adjuvant in the care and treatment of:
- surgical wounds, cuts and scratches;
- acute infected and sterile wounds;
- chronic wounds (bedsores, ulcerations of various origin);
- superficial and deep wounds (lacerations, bite wounds with recesses and pockets);
- 1st- and 2nd-degree burns
Effectiveness of POLISEPT VET® Wound Gel SILVER PRO:
- Effectively moisturizes the wound and regulates the exchange of water and gas in the wound
- Adsorbs wound exudate
- Effectively removes inorganic contaminants, mechanical and organic impurities, necrotic tissue, fibrin fibers, blood clots
The unique properties of POLISEPT VET® Wound Gel SILVER PRO result from the synergistic action of the main active substance, antibacterial agent and tenside contained in the hydrocolloid gel.
Compatibility with TIME
POLISEPT VET® Wound Gel SILVER PRO is a product that gives excellent results in the management of wounds, conducted within the scheme TIME, meeting the requirements set out in sections M and E
HOW TO APPLY
Removal of mechanical and biological impurities and decontamination of wound including removal of bacterial Biofilm creates optimal conditions for further treatment. Sparging lacerations, bite wounds, recesses or pockets must ensure the drainage of fluid. The gel must be applied on the dried wound. Severe infection of the wound may require application of suitable antiseptic formulation.
The gel can also be applied to a wound with a sterile spatula (Fig. 3, 3a)
In the case of deep wounds, fill the wound with gel to 2/3 of the depth so as not to leave it protruding above the surface of the skin surrounding the wound.
The wound should be covered with a secondary dressing (in the case of the daily exchange gel in the wound, you do not need to use secondary dressings however, it should be protected against licking by the animal).
WHAT MAKES POLISEPT VET® WOUND GEL SILVER PRO SPECIAL?
Active substances:
Polisept Vet® Wound Gel contains two synergistically acting active substances contained in the hydrocolloid gel:
- Polyhexanide (PHMB): biguanide agent with a broad spectrum of activity against pathogenic microbes
- Betaine (tenside): mild surfactant, effectively removes mechanical and biological impurities including BACTERIAL BIOFILM
Antibacterial agent Polyhexanide (PHMB):
- broad antibacterial spectrum:
Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas putida, Klebsiella aerogenes including high efficacy against MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) - antifungal activity: i.e. Aspergillus Niger, Trichophyton mentagrophytes
- lack of development of microbial resistance
- anti-inflammatory
- index of biocompatibility B>1 (high antimicrobial activity and low cytotoxicity)
- lack of allergenic activity (Index of 1:10 000)
The mechanism of PHMB:
Polyhexanide has affinity for cell membranes of microorganisms. Interacting with the membrane proteins it neutralizes their immune system and penetrates inside the bacterial cell. Then it combines with the cytoplasmic membrane proteins resulting in a loss of Mg and Ca ions, with consequent disruption of the cytoplasmic membrane of the bacterial cell. In this step of PHMB, the process is irreversible and leads to the death of the bacterial cell by loss of essential morphotic elements.
Because of its broad and specific properties, PHMB is recommended as a treatment of choice in the handling of slow healing chronic wounds.
Betaine (Tenside):
- gently operating surfactants
- effectively removes biological contaminants including BACTERIAL BIOFILM
- effectively removes mechanical impurities from within the wound
- very good skin tolerance
- it does not have a drying action on the skin and mucous membranes
The mechanism of action of Betaine:
Betaine is a mild surfactant, highly effective in wound irrigation. The mechanism of action of betaine involves the lowering of the surface tension of the liquid phase, which leads to the separation of organic substances from the base (micro-organisms, tissue necrosis, etc.), and inorganic substances. It also prevents re-merging of isolated elements into aggregates or re-attachment of microorganisms to the wound surface, thus effectively affects the flushing of any “contamination” from the wound. A special characteristic of betaine includes the ability to destroy the integrity of the bacterial BIOFILM within the wound, leading to the exposure of microbes to e.g. antibiotics. Bacterial biofilm is a major obstacle in the treatment of chronic wounds (observed in more than 60% of chronic wounds) and acute wounds in the early hours of treatment.
Hydrocolloid gel:
It provides the right conditions of wound humidity – maintains the optimum humidity within the wound
- moisturizes too dry wounds
- removes excess of mucus in the too wet wounds
- creates an antimicrobial barrier to protect the wound
- is very well tolerated by the tissues
